Overview
Modern Dentistry has more materials and techniques available than ever before. There are many choices available to create natural looking smiles. Let us select the best material to restore your missing, worn, damaged or decayed teeth. With new tooth-colored materials we can create a beautiful natural smile.

We still have an appreciation for the usefulness of traditional Dental materials; in some situations we choose gold for filling in back teeth where great pressure is exerted on the surface.

What’s Right for Me?
With so many choices how do you know what’s right for you? The doctor will advise you as to what’s available. Where and how the filling will be placed and the chewing load that tooth will have to bear as well as the length and number of visits needed.

Fortunately most of our crown work can be done in house with the CEREC system making most processes quick and painless.

Direct? Indirect? What does it all mean?
Direct restorations are completed in a single visit and like a 3-D puzzle piece are placed directly onto a dental cavity. They are made of tooth-colored composites. The tooth is prepared and the filling placed and adjusted in one visit. They blend in and become part of the tooth. With Ceric many crowns are now one -visit procedures.

Indirect restorations generally require two visits; they include inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns and bridges fabricated with gold or base metal alloys. During the first visit the Doc prepares the tooth and takes the impressions of the area to be restored. Once the lab has finished their magic we take the new tooth and cement it onto the prepared cavity and make any adjustments needed.

Tooth Colored Fillings
A great option to restore the natural look of the mouth replace old amalgamates. These are a mixture of glass or quartz that produces a tooth-colored filling. They are resistant to fracture in fillings up to medium sized. Composites can be bonded or held with an adhesive in the cavity.
Root Sensitivity?
Ionomers are an amazing option for those of you who have root sensitivity without enough recession to warrant surgery. These are a translucent tooth colored material used to fill cavities particularly those on the root surfaces of the teeth and customized to fit your bite. They can be built to release a small amount of fluoride that may be beneficial to patients at risk for decay. These are primarily used on small fillings between teeth or on the roots of teeth.

Resin Ionomers are also used for small fillings and have a low resistance to fracture. Both glass and resin composites mimic natural tooth color.
